Welcome to The Nicholist! My weekly list of pop culture where I gush on everything thatâs got me obsessed.
Itâs a special edition of The Nicholistâhereâs everything that made me cry this week.
All of Us Strangers
I love movies that make me think! Like All of Us Strangers made me think, âDoes anyone love me?â and âWill I die alone?â I highly recommend itânow streaming on Hulu!
Dito Ka Lang by Patrick Quiroz
Nothing hits like a Tagalog ballad. Dito Ka Lang by Parick Quiroz is a swoony OPM toon that has been on repeat all week. I have no idea what heâs singing or what the song is about. Aurally and visibly (via his face), the vibes are giving unrequited love and heartbreakâand so every time I listen, I feel sad and lonely. Could the song be about happiness, though? No, because sorry, happy loved people donât falsetto like he does at 3:24. They just donât.
People Running Marathons
I bought new Nikes this week and was immediately ambushed with running content on Instagram and YouTube (damn you, cookies!), and I realized that âOh, right, Nikes are actually for sports.â Watching people finish a marathon is so moving. Iâve never really worked hard for anything in my life, and Iâm most likely jealous that they can achieve such a great feat. But also, when they finish their races, I feel so proud of them. Like Iâm their mom. Theyâre sobbing, lazy mom.
You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment
You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment follows twinsâone on a vegan diet and the other on an omnivore dietâand explores how foods impact our health. This documentary is vegan and climate change propaganda. They are literally trying to scare you into a plant-based diet. You will most likely hate it. But thereâs a scene where a former chicken farmerâwhoâs learned the error of his waysâturns his death cage chicken coops into a mushroom growing house. And let me tell youâI sobbed at the mushroom reveal. Oddly moving. Also, Iâve been vegan for 15 years, and I think Iâm better than all of you.
