Welcome to The Nicholist! My weekly list of pop culture where I gush on everything thatās got me obsessed.
Itās a special edition of The Nicholistāhereās everything that made me cry this week.
All of Us Strangers
I love movies that make me think! Like All of Us Strangers made me think, āDoes anyone love me?ā and āWill I die alone?ā I highly recommend itānow streaming on Hulu!
Dito Ka Lang by Patrick Quiroz
Nothing hits like a Tagalog ballad. Dito Ka Lang by Parick Quiroz is a swoony OPM toon that has been on repeat all week. I have no idea what heās singing or what the song is about. Aurally and visibly (via his face), the vibes are giving unrequited love and heartbreakāand so every time I listen, I feel sad and lonely. Could the song be about happiness, though? No, because sorry, happy loved people donāt falsetto like he does at 3:24. They just donāt.
People Running Marathons
I bought new Nikes this week and was immediately ambushed with running content on Instagram and YouTube (damn you, cookies!), and I realized that āOh, right, Nikes are actually for sports.ā Watching people finish a marathon is so moving. Iāve never really worked hard for anything in my life, and Iām most likely jealous that they can achieve such a great feat. But also, when they finish their races, I feel so proud of them. Like Iām their mom. Theyāre sobbing, lazy mom.
You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment
You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment follows twinsāone on a vegan diet and the other on an omnivore dietāand explores how foods impact our health. This documentary is vegan and climate change propaganda. They are literally trying to scare you into a plant-based diet. You will most likely hate it. But thereās a scene where a former chicken farmerāwhoās learned the error of his waysāturns his death cage chicken coops into a mushroom growing house. And let me tell youāI sobbed at the mushroom reveal. Oddly moving. Also, Iāve been vegan for 15 years, and I think Iām better than all of you.
